  My Rifle Project

I'll be adding pictures as I build this rifle.  She's going to be a real special rifle.  4 foot barrel.  Yep, 4 foot long.  .36 caliber.  You can find pictures of the barrel being rifled in the Bookie's Shop page.
The wood is Walnut.  It's way fancier than any original Southern rifle I have seen but I've had the wood put back for years waiting for the right project and this is it.

I got started on the looong tang.  It's going to be an "Over the Comb" tang.  13" long.  If you decide to do one it helps to cut off a bolt head and glue or solder in the screw boss hole when shaping everything up.

Some progress has been made with the long tang.
Here's a more in depth look at what and how I did it.

How about that fancy brass tailed Ketland lock?  She's starting to look like a gun.

Wouldn't be right to have anything less than hand made triggers.  They aren't quite finished yet but they will already thumb the sear hard enough to trip the lock.

A little progress has been made.  The buttplate has been brazed together and I'm working on inletting it now.  The top buttplate in the picture is a commercially available cast plate.  If you want a deep cresent buttplate like mine you'll have to make your own.
